I'll be interested in hearin the difference though. I personally use Federal Hydra Shok .45 for my carry ammo. I honestly don't know the spec differences between the HST's and the Hydra Shok. It seem the HST's stay together in a nice little mushroom better than the Hydra Shok.Such as the difference between the 147 grain 9mm HST and the +P version with the normal HST 147 grain getting better expansion than its faster counterpart which achieved better penetration. However, a more consistent example of what to expect with velocities and performance are found in the normal HST 124 grain 9mm and the +P version.Both of those bullet designs are totally obsolete. Hydra-Shock has terrible performance against barriers such as windshields and has major issues with jacket separation. The 45 ACP Hydra-Shock had feeding problems in some 1911's which is why we issued the Golden Saber in that caliber. They were great rounds in 1995.The standard (non+P) Federal 230gr HST seems to gives the most consistent results in regard to expansion & penetration in gelatin testing, in 5" and shorter barrels, and it is both accurate and precise, and functions with complete reliability in my 4.25" and 5" barreled 1911s. The Punch is 950 fps with the Hydra-shok is 900 fps muzzle velocity. They are both 230 Grain.Not much difference between the two (Golden Sabre and HydraShok)...both plug up sometimes. ALWAYS go with the 230 grain bullets....there are some good things to be said about 200 grain bullets too, but those are getting scarce. HST's are awesome...but very hard to find.
