The vented Optispark units used 1995-97 are much less of a problem than the earlier unvented units. The problem was not so much water as the buildup of ozone generated by the high voltage discharge of the cap/rotor. Not driving the car in the rain would be ridiculous. Remove the heater hoses at the water pump. This allows flushing of the hoses and the core. Orient the hoses to keep all moisture off the optispark. Using a garden hose, flush into one heater hose allowing the water to come out the other. Do not use high pressure. The cooling system is only rated for 18 psi. It is not driven by the bolts. If so, the non-vented would not have needed a splined drive to turn it. The dowel pin drives the vented opti.Yes. If the opti loses the high res. signal (injector signal), it will die, but restart after a few tries with a long cranking time (like 10-15 seconds), along with a cel. If the low res. signal (spark signal) is getting lost the idle will flutter around and sometimes die, and not restart until the pcm can recieve the signal again (can take ...No special tools to remove the balancer,the hub stays put. On the balancer you will notice one of the "ears" is pointed,have this one pointing up. Remove the three bolts,the balancer should come off in your hands.
