Look at the cannons on one side of every ship, slop has 1, brig has 2, galleon has 4. It correlates with the crew size with the equation being max crew minus 1. A chest dug up by two will be 200. A chest dug up by 4 will be 400. There is no loss for teaming up since you get 100 regardless of the size of your crew.
