Go to the parking lot and hike 7/10 of a mile OR take a shuttle from the parking lot to an easy 3/10 of a mile hike to the tree. Lots of beautiful scenery and big trees here. You could do Monterey for one night and then head to Yosemite NP for 2N before heading to Vegas. The last day will be a long long drive so perhaps you can add another night.
