Steam turn off big picture
Turning off any steam option does nothing at all. The only thing I've found is to enable Microsoft gamebar and set the guide button to that, at least it doesnt go into big picture anymore, just the dumb gamebar overlay. The lesser of 2 evils. Apparently Microsoft won't allow disabling of the button ffs.In Steam, click the Big Picture Mode button in the upper-right corner. This will open Steam in Big Picture Mode in full screen. Select Forced Off. Also you do know you don't have to use Big picture mode to edit controller settings. On top left of Steam clients, click on Steam, then settings, under tab called controller, and there you go... No big picture mode was used. As you can see you have number of controller settings in red above, be aware what you're doing.

Pity This can't be accessed in the new ui though. It would seem they changed this recently on the overhaul of the UI to be more of the same of the SteamDeck UI. Now in Desktop mode it's: Game's main UI (not sidebar) > Controller icon > Then controller you want (Steam Deck controller cannot do this) > Cog setting/wheel > Disable Steam Input.Just an FYI, if you try to minimize Big-Picture mode while in desktop mode it will force you to hard restart your deck.
