R5: Empires with the Subterranean origin don't already have this tech called "Subterranean Colonization", despite being able to colonize subterraneanly since forever. Fun fact some people might not know or remember: in the earlier versions of Stellaris nobody had any colonisation tech.The subterranean civilization has two (really three) choices: complete society research project and establish contact, letting you then choose between peaceful contact and war; complete preemptive strike engineering research project, where they never invade you and instead you jump to ruthlessly genociding them all.
